GEPOPRIME® adhesion promoters give thermoplastic elastomers a permanent hold on substrates they would otherwise not bond to: automotive glass and glazing, metal, ceramics and plastics.
Developed and manufactured at GEPOC in Niederzier, Germany. We have been working in polymer chemistry since 1971 – adhesion on difficult substrates has been our subject ever since.
Wherever a TPE has to hold permanently on a rigid substrate – in injection moulding as well as in flexible extrusion:
There is a suitable grade for every substrate. Which one applies in your case is something we work out together – the decisive factors are the TPE grade, the substrate and your process.
A primer is applied in a thin film to the pre-treated substrate, where it forms the bridge between the rigid surface and the elastomer applied to it. Depending on substrate and production process, two different system types are used:
Two-component systems
Base and hardener are mixed before processing. The longer open time gives you room to manoeuvre in the process – the first choice for automotive glass and glazing, among others.
One-component systems, ready to use
No mixing, no mixing ratio, no waste. In return, these systems react quickly and require tightly controlled processing – typical for applications on metal, such as moulding studs and pads onto chain links.
Within both families there are grades for different substrates and processes. All systems are designed for reproducible results in series production.
Adhesion is not a product property. It is the result of several factors working together, and a bond succeeds or fails at more than one point at once:
This is why we deliberately do not publish processing parameters here. A value that is correct for one material pairing can already be wrong for the next – and you would only notice it on the finished part.
A short conversation is more useful. A few questions are usually enough to tell which grade is worth considering and what matters most in your case.
Application engineering support
We work through the material pairing with you and recommend the grade that fits – or tell you openly when we are not the right supplier.
Processing instructions
For the recommended grade you receive the complete instructions, including all technical values, pre-treatment and process control.
Trial samples
You test under your own conditions, on your own equipment, before you commit.
Support during introduction
On request we accompany initial sampling – on site as well.
Three details are enough to start: which TPE you process, the substrate it has to bond to, and the process you use. We will take it from there.
